Start with the animal you are actually choosing

Prices vary by morph, size, and the individual listing. Compare the selected size and its current price rather than assuming every axolotl in a collection costs the same. A photo of a particular animal and a representative morph photo are different kinds of listing; read the description before choosing.

Budget for the gaps in your setup

  • Aquarium and support: include the tank, a suitable secure lid, and a support rated for the filled aquarium.
  • Temperature management: include a thermometer and any cooling equipment your home needs. Plan around the room where the aquarium will actually sit.
  • Cycling and water care: allow for appropriate supplies and water testing before the animal arrives. Equipment purchases do not mean the aquarium is cycled.
